I’ve been a competitive Figure Skater since the age of 7, making it to Midwest Regional Championships for 4 years. I also played rugby throughout high school during Freshman and Sophomore year, but now Roller Derby…where do I begin? I started Derby at the age of 12 at the very first boot camp, then moved forward to help get a start on the Brewcity Bruisers MicroBruisers junior roller derby team and skated as a Micro for 5 years. Then being the age of 18, I went on to be a Bootlegger which drafted me to became a part of the Brewcity Bruisers Roller Derby League!
Worst Derby Injury
Throughout the years I’ve played Derby, I haven’t had a serious injury, knock on wood… what I do remember though is skating at one of my first bouts during the halftime of one of the Brewcity Brusiers home bout, I was jamming and got whacked out of bounds so hard I flew into the air and landed on someones skate right to the stomach and got the wind knocked out of me so bad I laid there curled in a ball unable to move and just sensed the entire arena become silent.
Proudest Derby Moment
My #1 proudest Derby moment would be, helping put a say in changing the age limit to play for the Brewcity Bruisers to 18 from 21. My whole life I’ve dreamed to play with the “big girls” and after graduating from the Micro’s at 18, I would’ve had to wait 3 years before I could be that “big girl” skater. So I decided to send in a letter saying how this could be something positive for the league, which turns out it got approved and I am here today where I’ve always dreamed to be at 19 years old being able to call myself a Shevil Knevil!
