Having sliced, diced, kicked, and crippled their way across Japan, original Crazy 8s’ leaders Cookie Ciano and Queen Latina made their way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in search of—what else?—cheap beer, a decent bratwurst, and fresh blood. They had conquered the roller derby scene in Japan—but the winter-induced badass-ness of the Midwest would be much more difficult. They knew that if they were to recreate their former glory, they would have to assemble a team of female warriors who could withstand the harshest punishment and battle the most toughened Midwesterner.

They called on women from all walks of life to meet the challenge: social misfits, jaded secretaries, bartenders, jilted graduate students, and corporate paper pushers. What did they have in common? They were all notorious rebels from Milwaukee’s seedy underground—and, most importantly, great dancers. Each one could not resist the cryptic “The 8s got down and dirty in their slick, ninja ways to seek out the team’s next derby assassins!” invitation proposed by Ciano and Latina and sealed within a fortune cookie “JOIN US”. And each did. Meeting under a single street-lamp and strapping on a pair of roller skates, the newly formed assassination-squad-on-quads blended effortlessly into one unified roller-derby killing machine of death, hell-bent on world roller-derby domination and Milwaukee takeover.

The Crazy 8’s were proud to win their first Championship of the Brewcity Bruisers home season in 2007 with a victory over the Shevil Knevils. Two more seasons went by without much success, and the 8s went through a rebuilding period. But Cookie Ciano, Indiana Bones, Kat Scratch Fever, and Termiskater were assembling a new era of derby domination. In 2011, with the freshly elected leadership of Sharkira, Pabsty Cline, and Servin’ Justice, the 8s got down and dirty in their slick, ninja ways to seek out the team’s next derby assassins! With 8 new ninjas (including two former Rollettes) the 8s went from worst to first, with a victory over the 3-time champions, the Rushin’ Rollettes. This year the 8s look as solid as ever, with Latina Heat joining returning captains Servin’ Justice and Sharkira. With the addition of two new skaters added to the mix, these crazy assassins will once again prove that there’s no messing with the assassination-squad-on-quads! BONSAI, suckers!
