Meet Your Shevil Knevils!

Bloody Cupcake "never says die" with her Shevil Knevils. What's it really like to live without fear?

SK_Bloody CupcakeHow long have you been playing derby?
This is my 4th season.

Why did you start playing roller derby?
My Mum met some of the new rookies at Rollaero a few years ago. They asked her to help them with basic skating skills. She had never seen derby before so we went to the first bout at the US Cellular to get a better feel of what skills they would need. I thought it looked awesome and fit me better then the other forms of skating that I did growing up.

How long have you been roller-skating?
I grew up skating. My mum always said she would take me as a baby to practice and I would nap under the bleachers while she and my older brothers practiced. Pretty much once I could walk I was on skates. Started competitve speed skating when I was 3 or 4 but stopped when I was 14.

How did you pick your name?
I had a hard time coming up with a name…One of the last ones in my rookie class that found a name. It seemed like every name I came up with was taken. Then one night my now husband murmured half asleep Bloody Cupcake. I burst out laughing. The next morning I still found it hilarious. So I kept it.

What do you like best about roller derby?
The girls. It is the most amazing group of friends a person could ask for. They will challenge you. And they will be there for you when you need it. I have met some of the most amazing people in the world.  Such a truly diverse group yet all strong in their own way. Absolutely love them.

What are your goals this season?
Of course to help the Shevils win the championships this year. And to have fun, I have always skated because I really enjoy it.

Do you train outside of skating?
I have tried many other things outside of derby to help with derby or prevent injuries. Weight lifting, yoga, spinning, hiking, boot camps, etc.

Do you play other sports?
Nope. Pretty much suck at most other sports my whole life. Can’t catch, throw, run or anything else.

What do you do for a career?
I am a project coordinator for a loading dock company. Doing everything from reading drawings to trouble shooting installation issues.

What’s the best thing about being a Shevil Knevil?
Wow. Hard to put into words. All of the teams have their strengths but the Shevils just seem to have a different way about them. It is the team that fits me best and I’m glad that they could see it and picked me. Plus, they are pretty.

Anything else fans should know about you?
I love chocolate. I have the sweetest rottweiler in the world named after a prince song. And I like to knit.
