Name: *Pinky* The *Glitterator*

Team: Maiden Milwaukee

Years involved with the Brewcity Bruisers: 1

Reason for becoming involved with roller derby?

I saw the movie “Whip It” and became inspired. I asked people around me if they thought I could play roller derby, and very few thought I could. There are so many people in the world who will tell you that you can’t, the most satisfying thing you can do is turn around and say “Watch me!”

How did you come up with your derby name?

I love all things pink and sparkly. I also like the juxtaposition of wearing glitter and girly colors while kicking ass; it expands the perception of what it is to be pretty and feminine.

Favorite songs/artists to listen to on bout day?

Harry Belafonte: Jump in the Line, Katy Perry: Firework, Louis Prima, Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Elvis

Best/worst things about being a rollergirl?

The best thing? After college there are only so many opportunities in adult life to compete as a part of a team in front of an arena full of fans. This is a sport that can be very successfully played by all body types and doesn’t have an age limit.

The worst thing for me is my 75-mile commute to practice. I could’ve really used some high-speed rail in my life.

Pertinent/previous athletic experience?

College cheerleading, college dance team, tap, ballet, jazz, downhill skiing — I get my blood-thirsty competitive experience from my years of playing spoons and winning pudgy bunny death matches.

Dream job?

At this point in my career I already have my dream job because I get paid to be creative every day through web design, marketing and graphic design for a world class University. For my next act I would love to become an art director or marketing manager in Milwaukee, then move on to work for HGTV focusing on a game show that brings better design through glitter and sequins into the average American home.

Any hobbies aside from derby?

Downhill skiing, dancing the polka at Brewers games, competitive spoons, whitewater rafting, shopping at Mr. Shoe, appreciating IKEA, horseback riding, collecting salt n’ pepper shakers, cake baking, volunteering, running amok on the Eastside, marketing, designing and general glitterating.

Favorite derby moment?

Achieving my goal of becoming a Fresh Brew, exceeding my goal of doing 30 laps in 5 minutes, and making my dreams come true by being drafted to Maiden Milwaukee.

Your roller derby spirit animal is… ?

The pink flamingo, plastic or feathered that is one fabulous bird.

Favorite position to play and why?

 Blocker, Jammer, Glitterator

How has roller derby changed your life?

I am in the best shape of my life discovering muscles I never thought I could have. I have also found a home on the track sweating with the most amazing women in this city. Derby has changed my life because it is about proving to yourself that you can do anything in the world you want if you work hard for it no matter who doubts you.
