In this edition of our Bruiser Blog, we’d like to present Rejected Seoul, current travel team co-captain and skater with the Brewcity Bruisers!

Name: Rejected Seoul

Number: 78

Team: Maiden Milwaukee skater, Travel Team Co-Captain

Years involved with the Brewcity Bruisers: 4 or 5?

Reason for becoming involved with roller derby?

It seemed like a lot of fun.

How did you come up with your derby name?

I am adopted and thought if would be funny to play with that. My number comes from the year I was exported from Korea.

Favorite songs/artists to listen to on bout day?

Whatever get me in the mood to kick some butt!

Best/worst things about being a rollergirl?

The amount of friends I’ve made from becoming a bruiser is amazing. Seeing all of us grow over the last 5 years is so exciting.  I remember when we all started we all smoked!!! Now we’re becoming toned athletes!

Derby has taken up a lot of time in my life. I’d like to have kids and I’m 33!!! I should start popping them out soon. I am worried I won’t be able to find the time to get back on skates afterwards. But there are so many mommies in the league as inspiration that I have high hopes.

Pertinent/previous athletic experience?

I didn’t do anything athletic since I started college. I’ve always skied with my family.  I was 7th in the nation when I was 12.  When I was younger I did gymnastics till 7th grade when I realized I wasn’t going to be in the Olympics — and I wanted to go through puberty.  Then I tried cross-country which I did till sophomore year.  That’s when I started diving and went to state twice.  And for shits and giggles I was cheerleading MVP my senior year. I just liked getting thrown in the air really high and yelling — mmm cinnamon rolls.

Dream job?

Teaching roller derby and animation at UWM or own my own cake shop — mmm cake.

Any hobbies aside from derby?

I am an animator but since I started roller derby can’t find the time to do it.  I also deer hunt. Love to decorate cakes!

Favorite derby moment?

Anytime I jump the apex and make it is great.

Your roller derby spirit animal is…?

I’ve been told I’m a lemur.

Rollergirls: favorite position to play and why?

Jamming is great to keep you sharp and agile, but I love to block. I love to deflate those really great jammers. (hehehe)

How has roller derby changed your life?

I’ve been told I’m more assertive since I’ve started. I can really relate to Juliet Louis’ character in whip-it. I guess I feel I was never really good at anything before. I am a good animator, but have always been the black sheep of my family. Now my parents are proud to go to my derby matches and they take their friends. That really means a lot to me. I feel sort of sad that it’s taken me 28 years to figure out what I’m good at. I hope I keep getting better.
